Managed Backup & Recovery

Managed Backup Services in Rhode Island, Built for the RI DTPPA

Triton Technologies delivers managed backup, tested recovery and business continuity for Rhode Island organizations, supported from our Providence office and documented for the state’s privacy and breach laws.

Rhode Island Backup Compliance — RI DTPPA and HIPAA

Every Rhode Island business that holds residents’ personal information must keep a risk-based information security program and report qualifying breaches under the Identity Theft Protection Act (R.I. Gen. Laws § 11-49.3). Larger businesses, generally those handling personal data of 35,000 or more customers a year, also fall under the Data Transparency and Privacy Protection Act, in effect since January 1, 2026, which requires a written contract with every data processor (§ 6-48.1-7). Triton’s Rhode Island managed backup service provides immutable cloud replication, a written processing agreement, encryption in transit and at rest, 30-day point-in-time recovery, and documented restore tests.

Managed Backup for Rhode Island Organizations

Triton Technologies runs backup as a managed service for Rhode Island organizations. We schedule every job, check every result, encrypt the data and carry out the restores, so none of it lands on your staff.

Rhode Island’s Identity Theft Protection Act (R.I. Gen. Laws § 11-49.3) expects any business that holds personal information about Rhode Island residents to maintain a risk-based security program. A backup nobody has tried to restore does not meet that standard, which is why restore testing is part of the service rather than an add-on.

Property Management Company — Greater Boston

A Boston-area property management company with dozens of locations was under constant ransomware attack. Their existing provider — a major national brand — was repeatedly patching rather than permanently resolving. When Triton assessed the environment, the finding was stark: absolutely no firewall, workstations running admin-level permissions by default, no file structure, no access authority hierarchy.

Within two months, Triton took over the full account. We implemented enterprise firewall and client-side filtering from zero, locked down the network and workstations, removed default admin permissions, imposed security policy, file structure, and access authorities, and deployed backup and monitoring. For nearly a decade since 2016, this client of 70+ employees has recorded zero ransomware attacks and zero email compromises. They remain a Triton client today, running cloud services that are secure, cost-effective, and support work from anywhere.

What Changed

Enterprise firewall and client-side filtering built where there had been no firewall at all.

Admin rights removed

Default admin permissions removed and every workstation locked down.

Order imposed

Security policy, file structure and access authorities put in place.

Backup and monitoring

Backup and monitoring deployed across the environment.

Zero incidents since 2016

No ransomware attacks and no email compromises in nearly a decade.

Still a client

Nearly a decade. Zero ransomware attacks. Zero email compromises.

What Rhode Island Law Expects From Your Backups

In Rhode Island, lost or exposed personal data is a legal event as well as an IT problem. Under the Identity Theft Protection Act, a breach of unencrypted personal information that poses a significant risk of identity theft must be reported to affected residents in the most expedient time possible, and a business has no more than 45 calendar days after confirming the breach to do it. If more than 500 Rhode Island residents are to be notified, the Attorney General and the major credit reporting agencies must be told as well. Civil penalties reach $100 per record for a reckless violation, or $200 per record for a knowing and willful one, and the Attorney General brings the action.

Two backup questions decide how that goes: was the data encrypted, and can you show what was restored and when? Triton’s service answers both. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and every restore test is recorded with its date, scope and result.

Three Copies, Two Media, One Off-Site

Every Rhode Island client’s backup follows the 3-2-1 pattern: three copies of the data, stored on two kinds of media, with one copy kept away from your building.

The first copy lives on an appliance in your office, so a deleted folder or a failed server comes back in minutes. The second replicates to encrypted, geo-redundant cloud storage in the United States, which is the copy that matters when the building itself is the problem: a coastal storm, a flooded basement or a fire. The third is immutable and held apart from your network.

A finished job is not proof of protection, so Triton restores sample data on a schedule set by your compliance requirements and keeps the results on file for your auditor or your insurer.

Recovering From Ransomware Without Paying

Ransomware crews go after backups first, because a business that can restore has no reason to pay. Triton stores backups as immutable copies: once written, they cannot be changed or deleted until their retention period ends, even by an administrator account an attacker has taken over. A separate copy sits outside your network altogether.

An attack also starts Rhode Island’s notification clock. The incident runbook Triton prepares with you therefore covers both halves of the response: getting systems back, and capturing what your notice will need, including which data was affected, whether it was encrypted and when it was restored.

Disaster Recovery Planned Around Your Business

A backup protects your data. A disaster recovery plan decides how quickly your business is working again.

With each Rhode Island client, Triton agrees two numbers before anything goes wrong: the Recovery Time Objective, meaning how long a system can be down, and the Recovery Point Objective, meaning how much recent work you can afford to redo. Systems that cannot wait for new hardware get virtual machine failover, so critical servers start in the cloud while the physical equipment is repaired or replaced.

What is Included:

  • RTO and RPO targets agreed in writing before an incident
  • Cloud failover for the servers your operations depend on
  • Scheduled restore tests, with the results kept on file
  • A written recovery runbook for your environment
  • Triton engineers working the recovery alongside your team
  • An updated plan after every real event or test

Backup Evidence for Regulated Rhode Island Organizations

Healthcare practices, financial firms, schools and defense suppliers in Rhode Island answer to more than one rulebook, and each asks the same backup questions: how long is data kept, is it encrypted, and can you prove it restores?

Triton keeps that evidence as part of the service. Backup logs, retention schedules, restore test records and access reports are organized so they can go straight to an examiner, an auditor or the Attorney General’s office.

Frameworks We Support:

  • RI Identity Theft Protection Act — a risk-based information security program for resident data
  • RI DTPPA — processor contracts and customer-rights records, for businesses the Act covers
  • HIPAA — ePHI backup, retention, encryption and access logs
  • PCI DSS — cardholder data backup controls and log retention
  • CMMC / NIST 800-171 — backup and recovery controls for defense suppliers
  • SOC 2 — availability and confidentiality evidence

How Triton Delivers

The Sophos XDR Mandate

We deploy Sophos Firewalls as the non-negotiable perimeter standard. Any firm operating without synchronized endpoint protection is an insurance liability. Sophos Endpoint (EDR/XDR) is the mandatory internal security layer.

AWS Scalability

We deploy on AWS because downtime is not an option. When a critical system goes down, AWS support responds with enterprise urgency, not a ticket queue. Every dollar of downtime is a dollar your IT provider owes you an answer for.

The AI Autonomous Advantage

Axiom, Triton’s proprietary AI monitoring system, gives our engineers real-time visibility that off-the-shelf tools cannot replicate. It is not for sale, it is how we deliver.
